Autocharge allows your vehicle to automatically authenticate when charging at your home charger. Once enabled, you can simply plug in your vehicle and charging will start automatically—no app or RFID card required.
Notes:
- This functionality is currently supported exclusively for Valeo Ineez charge boxes and is designed for home/private charging.
- Firmware Prerequisite: Your installer must ensure the Valeo Ineez charger has the correct firmware version installed. While the Autocharge toggle is always visible in the Northe app, the feature will not work without the supported firmware on the hardware side.
How to Enable Autocharge
You can set up Autocharge directly in the Northe app by following these steps:
- Navigate to your Charger: Open the Northe app and go to your Home Charger settings.
- Enable Status: Locate the Autocharge status toggle and switch it to ON.
- Start Pairing: Tap the green START PAIRING button that appears.
- Select Billable Account: Choose the profile you want to link to this vehicle. As a Northe fleet user, you have two accounts:
- Business Profile: Select this for your primary fleet vehicle to ensure sessions are correctly tracked for employer reimbursement.
- Private Profile: Use this for other vehicles (e.g., a partner's EV) to charge them at home without business reimbursement.
- Plug In: Tap Start Pairing in the modal. You now have 2 minutes to connect your vehicle to the charger.
- Confirmation: Once the vehicle is connected, Northe will automatically detect your vehicle's identifier. Successful pairing will be displayed under the PAIRED ACCOUNTS list.
Authentication via Charge Key
In addition to Autocharge, you can also use a charge key (RFID card) to authenticate sessions on your Valeo Ineez charger:
- Profile Linking: You can add and link a charge key to both your Business and Private profiles in the Northe app.
- Flexible Usage: Simply tap your linked charge key on the charger to start a session. This is useful for vehicles not compatible with Autocharge or for guest charging.
- Reimbursement Logic: Just like Autocharge, only sessions started with a charge key linked to your Business Profile will be processed for employer reimbursement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as public Autocharge?
This pairing flow is purely for home charging on Valeo Ineez chargers with Northe. Northe does not support Autocharge for public charging at this time. Any pairing performed on your home charger is separate from public roaming networks or other Plug & Charge solutions.
Why does my vehicle need to be assigned to an account?
Correct assignment ensures that:
- Charging sessions are billed to the right profile (Private vs. Business).
- Home charging reimbursement is calculated and processed correctly.
- Company billing workflows are not interrupted.
Can I pair multiple vehicles to one charger?
Yes. Each vehicle must be paired individually following the steps above. Ensure you select the correct billable account for each vehicle during its specific pairing window.
What if Autocharge stops working?
The most common cause is a change in the vehicle's network identifier (MAC address). This can happen due to:
- Manufacturer Updates: Some vehicles use rotating MAC addresses for privacy.
- Software Resets: Factory resets or major firmware updates.
- Hardware Changes: Replacement of communication modules.
If Autocharge fails, simply remove the vehicle from the PAIRED ACCOUNTS list and repeat the pairing process.
How do I remove a vehicle?
- Navigate to your Home Charger in the Northe app.
- Find the vehicle in the PAIRED ACCOUNTS list.
- Tap the options menu (three dots) next to the vehicle and select Remove.
- Confirm the removal. The vehicle will no longer start sessions automatically.
Is Autocharge secure?
Yes. Autocharge for home use is secure because it only recognizes vehicles that you have explicitly paired within your private setup. The identifier is used solely for session authentication within your account.
